Did you know that the success of the movie drove sales up at Mattel, the company that manufactures Barbie?

The perseverance and talent that Maya Angelou, Octavia Butler, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and many other Black women authors had helped pave the way for current authors to breathe life into their books' characters, such as "The girl with the louding voice," by Abi Dare, and "White teeth : a novel," by Zadi Smith. As Toni Morison said so wonderfully, "If you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else." Come to the Learning Commons and Library to browse a few works of these inspiring authors or visit our displays virtually at go.hawaii.edu/Pnr!

During National Family Caregivers Month in November, the Alzheimer’s Association is teaming up with the Ad Council to launch a new national communications campaign, Hopeful Together.” Highlighting the campaign are public service announcements (PSAs) aimed at encouraging families to discuss cognitive concerns with each other and their doctor sooner to enable early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.

Speaking from personal experience, my family has been caring for my mother who has been battling Alzheimer's for about 8 years. I can never forget all that she has done for me, and want to help her in her time of need. Join me in honoring all who have been caregivers to family members with Alzheimer's or other debilitating diseases.

The following list is a selection of resources on caregiving for people with Alzheimerʻs available at the Leeward CC Library:
